Have you ever been to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis? It is by far one of the coolest places we've ever taken our kids. Maybe you're planning a trip there or attending a different all day museum, either way you'll need to think about lunch.

When we visit the children's museum, we always pack a lunch. Come take a look at my favorite meal that makes the whole process quick and so easy.

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is the largest in the world. You'll be exploring for hours, making your way through all of the amazement, likely with a large crowd of other fun loving families. This is one reason why you will be thrilled that you can skip the food lines, eat, and get back to all the fun.

What should we use to pack a lunch?

You'll need a collapsible cooler, tupperware, and ice packs at least. Check out all of my favorite essentials here:

What do we do with our lunch while exploring?

Many museums have locker rentals. At the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, you can rent a locker for $1 per use. Just bring plenty of quarters with you. Mom or Dad can grab the cooler out of the locker and meet everyone back at the lunchroom.

Another option is to use a backpack cooler and wear it around the museum with you.

What is the best lunch to pack?

Charcuterie! That's right charcuterie is absolutely the perfect lunch to pack for everyone in your museum party. You can easily add in something that everyone likes. Even my picky eater is happy with this lunch.

A charcuterie lunch is a simple meal that comes together so quickly. Just throw some meat and cheese cuts into one piece of tupperware, crackers in another, and the same with some fruits & veggies. This is done quickly and really beats spreading PB&J or mayo on 10 pieces of bread and then adding all of the individual toppings.

Charcuterie is also so much easier to prep a day in advance. You can store everything beautifully in various pieces of tupperware and put them in the cooler on your way to the museum. No soggy sandwiches here!

This particular meal is also pretty healthy, in comparison to the options you often find in the food court. We love it because we feel full, but we aren't weighed down by a big greasy piece of pizza with french fries. We feel light when we get back to exploring.

None the less, it must be said, I really enjoy the effortless elegance that comes with packing charcuterie. We pass out appetizer plates, napkins, and even cups. We pour ourselves some iced tea, relax, and talk about our favorite things in the museum.

What's on my menu?

I love that charcuterie is so customizable to everyone's tastes, but here are my family's favorites:
  • Salami
  • Gouda
  • Crackers
  • Jarred Artichokes
  • Fresh Red Peppers
  • Blackberries
  • Cookies
  • Iced Tea
  • Bottled Water

A little secret...

When the weather is nice, you may want to have your lunch al fresco. In the outdoor sports legends exhibit there are picnic tables by the concession stand. It's a lovely way to enjoy lunch at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.

Are you considering a membership?

We have done two  yearly memberships to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis as we live in Indiana. I highly recommend it as we really get our money's worth this way and we create so many fun memories as a family.

With that said, if you are a member, packing a lunch is definitely the way to go! It's more cost effective and quite enjoyable.

Hope you have a blast!
