DIY Kids Explorer Bag

My kids are always collecting things when we go outside to play so, I thought a little explorer bag would be just the thing to keep all of their findings in. Not only is it fun to take outside, but also makes a great dress up accessory.

This bag was so easy and inexpensive, just about $2 to make! You can get really creative and use fun colored foam and unique ribbon, but I went with a classic looking messenger bag for this one.

You will need:

• 2 Foam sheets 12 x 18 inches
  
• Ribbon
  
• 2 buttons
  
• Hot glue gun
  
• Glue stick 
  
• Scissors 
• Chip clip
  

Steps:

1. Fold one foam sheet in half, hamburger style, and close it with a chip clip. 

2. Trim up the side edges of the foam to give the bag a little shape.

3. Hot glue the side edges together leaving about one inch unglued at the top opening of the bag on each side. This allows room for the ribbon to be glued in.

Once the edges were glued, I trimmed a little off of the top edge to shape it up. 

4. Measure and cut a 12 x 3 inch piece of foam from the other sheet. Cut it into two strips, 12 x 1.5 inches. Hot glue them on the front of the bag. I left about two inches at the bottom.

​5. Cut off the excess foam from the top. 

6. Slide in the ribbon on each top side and hot glue in place. Then hot glue two buttons at the base of each foam strip.
