DIY Secret Book Box

This neat DIY is rather quick and easy. It's a fun way to stash treasures and decorate a mantle or shelf!

​But perhaps the best use is as a unique housewarming gift for friends and family!

​You will need:

• A book, about 2 inches thick
• Mod Podge
• Paint Brush
• Sharp Detail Knife
• Ruler
• Clip
• Heavy Book

​Step 1

On the first page, draw a line 1/2 in from the edge of the paper on all four sides, creating a rectangle. Cut on the lines, but leave the paper intact in a few places (this makes it easier to clip back). Now clip the front page to the front cover. 

​Pulling back the paper that will be the top on the inside helps keep it looking nice while you are carving out the rest of the book.

Step 2

Brush on a layer of Mod Podge on the three outside edges of paper. This will keep the pages in place as you cut out the inside.

Step 3

With the first page pinned back, draw another rectangle 1/2 in from the edges.

Step 4

Cut on the lines and gently pull out the inner part of the page. Go down about 1 1/4 inches. 

Tip

I used the ruler to cut a nice straight line for the first few pages. After that, I was able to pull a straight line without it. 

​Step 5

Brush on a layer of Mod Podge on the inside of the box, leaving the top edges alone for now. Let it dry then repeat. Brush on another layer on the outside edges, too.

Step 6

Finish cutting out the inside of the first page then glue it down. Press it with a heavy book and let dry.

Neat!
