Change Up Your Bread
I love swapping boring wheat loaf bread for other breads with more artisanal allure. Slice up a French bread loaf for your next bacon and egg sandwich or French toast to see the difference in presentation. It has a gourmet look and is also super cheap. I get my French loaves from the Walmart bakery and I can usually find them on the discounted rack for 50 cents! I buy several at a time because they freeze beautifully.
Garnish With Herbs Sprinkle fresh herbs on scrambled eggs for that certain “Je ne sais quoi”. Chives are my favorite for their flavor and they’re a perennial so they come back every year in my herb garden. If all you have is dry that’s great too. I love sprinkling herbes de Provence on the mayo of breakfast sandwiches for a touch that makes the meal more interesting and flavorful.
Use Leftover Charcuterie Did you know that uneaten charcuterie from a previous day’s gathering makes for a sophisticated breakfast the next day? I love using prosciutto in place of bacon on sandwiches and goat cheese makes a fabulous omelet.
Dine on Fine China Instantly elevate your breakfast by serving it on your good china. Why not? You own it right? And if you don’t, but would like to acquire fine china, it’s usually pretty inexpensive at thrift stores and yard sales. It’s worth putting in this small effort as the beauty of these dishes can make the dining experience more enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing. Eating on fine china can encourage mindfulness and slow down the pace of your meal. The care and attention required to handle delicate dinnerware also makes us feel special and raises our standards for our own behavior at the table.
Use Paper Sacks Is the idea of getting breakfast served hard enough, let alone elevating it? Are you thinking, “I can barely get breakfast done let alone make it fancy, Tayler!” I totally get it, most days I drop the kids off at school and get home just in time to pack a very quick on the go breakfast for my hubby. I like to pack it in brown paper lunch sacks because it feels like I just selected a fresh pastry from the glass display of a charming bakery. Even if it’s just a store bought bagel. Have Brunch Cocktails I love the slow pace I can take on weekend mornings. I often serve a brunch and sometimes go all out with classic brunch cocktails. Making bloody marys or mimosas at home is an inexpensive alternative to going out for Sunday brunch, while adding luxury to your leisurely Sunday morning.
Involve the Senses If you have the time, set a pleasant ambiance by playing some upbeat, yet relaxing music with your breakfast or brunch. I like jazz instrumentals or French cooking on Pandora. It sets the tone for a chic and elegant day and it’s totally free! But don’t stop there, put out a nice table cloth and an arrangement of fresh or faux flowers for a special touch. You can even dine al fresco for an extra magical time.
All in All…
These are really cheap ways to make your breakfast feel fancier that don’t require much effort. Happy Elevating Your Vibe and Enriching Your Life!
