I am so thrilled with the way this vintage trains poster turned out. My intentions were to create a poster to be used as a disposable birthday party decoration for our son. As I've made a design board for his new bedroom, I could not have completed it without a very chic yet masculine vintage travel poster.

So it made sense for the party to have one too. But my son loved it so much he wanted it in his room. So, I thought I would share because if you are in search of free or inexpensive art to decorate quickly, this DIY is pretty easy. And I even included a full size printable of this poster that I created just in case you want to have it professionally printed.

You will need:
  • Vintage Trains Poster Printable Pieces (links are at bottom of the post)
  • Scissors or Paper Trimmer
  • 15x20 Piece of Cardboard
  • Mod Podge
  • Medium Paint Brush
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Small Paint brush

Step 1
Cut out the four poster pieces so that the white edge is gone.

Step 2
Line up the first piece exactly where it will lay. Use a pencil to mark where the inside corner is. This helped me to get all four pieces better aligned where it really counted so the picture would look whole.

Step 3
Apply Mod Podge to the first area for just the first piece. Take my word for it and apply the mod podge to the cardboard. If you try applying to the paper it will bubble terribly, but the application is smooth and wonderful if you apply to the cardboard and then place the paper down.

Step 4
Once all four pieces have been applied, mix up some acrylic paint to cover any flaws where the seams lie. Just blur it around. It won't matter that there is a difference in the paint and the printer ink because we are going to seal it up with Mod Podge.

Step 5
Paint a final seal coat of Mod Podge over the poster.
