Although this kids bathroom has an overall mature feeling, I hoped the blue and pink color palette would help to keep it a little youthful. Our last bathroom was pretty bright and childlike and I just wanted something that was a little more cultured. This bathroom can be seen in the hallway of our upstairs and I wanted it to feel like it went with the rest of our house, but was also still a cool place for our kids to get ready for school and bed. The previous bathroom gives me bad vibes. Well, blah vibes anyways. The shower curtain had gotten a little dingy, the room lacked organization or care, and how could I let the tile grout get so gross?! Unfortunately, my wonderful Bissel Crosswave can't quite whiten our tile grout when it gets soiled. While cleaning this bathroom up to redecorate, I decided to try the 'ol peroxide and baking soda method. Wow, did it work! The pasty mixture of these two cheap household ingredients cleaned our grout better than any product I have ever tried and it felt so much safer. I really wanted an oriental rug in this bathroom to play into the Victorian vibes throughout the rest of our house. I also wanted something unexpected for a kids room that would feel like a surprise. Both of my kids loved this rug! I really don't know what it is, but I love the white fringe shower curtain hooks on top of the white portion of this ombre curtain. I guess it's just that "Je ne sais quoi." I really struggled with the wall art for this room. I just needed a small 8x10 print to lean up on the shelf, but could not make up my mind. Since this is where my kids get ready I wanted to make sure the art was inspiring and positive and wasn't just some random blue and pink thing. I thought about creating my own art with some of my favorite affirmations, but I felt too much pressure. And I thought about this cute ginger jar art on Etsy, but it felt too feminine for a shared boys and girls bathroom. I ended up going with the Children's Book Week poster from 1920. I really like it because I know it will subliminally inspire my son and daughter to further their love of books. I sized this vintage art to fit an 8x10 frame and cut off the top text. I also altered the color filter a little to bring out a little more of a pink tone. This wall art is available for you to download for free at the end of this post. This cute face planter with the succulent just looked so cute with the art and hey, I was going for a cultured feel. My daughter actually made it in art camp this summer. No, it's not exactly pink and blue, but it's eyes are blue, those lips look a little pink to me, and the yellow goes along with all of the gold metals :) All in all, I don't ever like anything to feel too matchy matchy. This unique artsy area added some dimension to the design. I know they cost a little more, but attractive toilet bowl brushes are so worth it. It's really a very inexpensive way to elevate the vibe in your bathroom big time. This gold brushed metal toilet bowl brush was only about $11 more than the ugly plastic one at Target. I just happened to love the accessories that I found for this kids bathroom. The blue color and embossed design looks so cute with the oriental rug. They also happen to be plastic, which wasn't a must have for me, but really is kinda nice in a kids room. My kids have knocked the soap dispenser off of the counter plenty of times.
